Ooh, would it be really mean to ask what your biggest regrets in the Cradle system are? cough sword sage death cough
It’s not the Sword Sage’s death. My only regret regarding his death was not having Yerin in Book 2 clearly say “BOY THIS WAS SUPER WEIRD YOU GUYS,” just so people would know I didn’t make a mistake
I don't know, she doesn't really know what a Sage is capable of even still he doesn't seem like the type that would lecture a young girl on how his body works
Yeah, that’s why it wasn’t in there initially. But it confuses readers, which means I probably should have handled it differently.
Just out of curiosity, how many more books from the cradle are you planning on writing, if I had my way we would follow Lindon for forever, but that's unfair, so I am just wondering if you are planning on connecting all of the multiple universes or what your plans are, as much as you are willing to tell anyway
It depends on how well I feel the series is going when we leave Cradle (which I don’t consider a spoiler, because obviously). The story might end there, or it might end there temporarily, or it might just keep going. I have roughly 12-15 books planned out in the world of Cradle itself.
Are there other colors of dragon madra beyond "black"flame?
The dragons who inhabited the lands of the Blackflame empire were (and are) black, the color of the destructive aura that they cycled. There are sea dragons that are blue, sky dragons with a variety of colors, and earthbound land dragons that might be green or brown. But you asked about the color of their flame, not the color of their scales. Yes, there are dragons with toxic green flame, frigid icy "flame" that consumes even as it freezes, good old natural flame, and red living flames that drift around like Remnants burning as much as possible to extend their fleeting lives.
Say if Lindon touches the Way can he also touch the Void? And if so, can he harvest madra from the Void?
Yes.“Can he draw madra from the Void?” Probably he wouldn’t be drawing madra.
Would you guys consider getting some kind of Sacred Artist badges to sell on your store?
You know, people ask me that a lot, and like I've said before: the merchandise takes a lot of energy to run, and to develop. So it's a lot more difficult than people realize it is. And so often people are like: "No, it's not that hard, you can just 3D print a badge."
I know you can... look, 3D printing one badge is definitely doable; 3D printing a batch of badges is definitely doable. Doing something so that we have them sell-able and available on our store - it's possible, but it's not something that is necessarily worth the time and energy invested in it.
So maybe someday. I'd like to have them, they're cool... but we don't sell a lot of merch anyway. We're really just focused on selling enough merchandise to justify itself. But the reason why we started selling merch - kind of like the reason we started giving books away - is because people wanted merchandise. So... that's it, that's why it exists. So I would like to do badges - if we can justify it one day, we will.
Rand vs. a Monarch?
I don't know, man. At the end of Wheel of Time, Rand is like Buddha. I don't know how to power scale that. I don't know what Rand can or can't do by the end of Wheel of Time. Can he reverse time? Maybe. He's battling conceptual entities so I don't know. Rand is the protagonist of Wheel of Time so I guess that was a spoiler alert. By the end, he's battling conceptual entities!
Oh by the way is Akura Mercy a refiner or is studying to be one, or did she just have easy to use healing/medical elixir with her in the Skysworn exam.
She just keeps some on her in case of emergency.
For the record, I'm still CONSIDERING doing a story in Sacred Valley after Lindon left. I just have to be careful how I do it, to avoid the dreaded spoilerinos.
As for before Lindon left, that's not a bad idea. Or even before Lindon was born.
Is Akura Malice always giant?
Akura Malice is never giant.
I assume the artists on the Path of the Starseed have some way of protecting their body from the aura? Also, can they only manifest it inside their hands, or within a certain distance?
It's cupped a few inches from their hands, like a ball. As they advance, they can control it more freely and project it farther.
Will we ever see Fury again?
Will we ever see Fury again?
Yes we will. We absolutely will. I will now back out because I see there are people asking me questions to elaborate on that.

Are there multiple Ways throughout the Void?
Potentially, but even the Abidan don't know for sure.
Hey Will ! I am a big fan of your works (i probably already said this through my other user accounts but hey). I have a few questions if you don't mind entertaining. Did Valin somehow have access to the Way when he created Valinhall ? Or the creation of Valinhall is kinda a Travelers Gate magic and nothing to do with the Way? Did Eithan expect Yerin to eventually learn using the sword icon through his training ? Or that was just a pleasant surprise/coincidence that he did not know would bear fruit from his training? Thanks for bringing Cradle/TG to life ! It has been a pleasure.
1.) It DOES have something to do with the Way, in fact. 2.) Who can know the mind of Eithan? (In all seriousness, #2 is a Read And Find Out.)
Are there any people on Cradle who don't cycle at all or is it as natural as breathing?
You can be born with madra and not ever cycle or develop it.They can sort of feel their spirits, even without training, so it requires a degree of deliberate or culturally enforced ignorance to never do anything with it, but there are definitely isolated locations where they don’t learn to cycle and therefore don’t quite advance or use real techniques.
Is there another level we haven't seen yet or were you counting sage (or just miscounting) in saying there were 5 levels between Eithan and the Monarchs?
I've been going back and forth on the number of ranks and how to describe them. I knew generally what they were, but I've been messing with them behind the scenes for a while.
So it could either be that I was counting Sage back then or that, at the time I answered the question, there were five ranks. I don't really remember.
What makes Jai Chen's madra pink?
Love.
Will, the Sword Sage praised the chief of the Heaven Glory school(not sure the name is correct). Does this mean that he has a perfect jade body, or whatever it is called. Or did he simply mean that his foundation is better than the ones of the other elders?
The Sword Sage didn't REALLY praise him, he just took it as praise. To a Sage, the Jades of Sacred Valley were like a bunch of blind monkeys swinging sticks around. He may have said "Nice swing," but he meant that in the context of a bunch of other blind monkeys.
Of the eight badges Lindon found, I'm assuming the halfsilver one is Lord, would the Goldsteel one then be Sage, or Herald?
That will be revealed.
This is my favourite blog since 'Ancestors of Cradle'!! Fun reading!!!
How aboutGrom (The Archmage of Menzoberanzan) vs Elder Whisper
Ryu Hayabusa (from Ninja Gaiden 2) vs Yerin?
Goku (ignoring anything past the Main Buu Saga) vs Northstrider?
Is there anyone in the Cradle world (not the universe itself but the planet) that can take one Majin-Buu or Majin-Vegeta?
Evangeline Kitty McDowell (from UQ Holder) vs Luminous Queen Sha Maria?
Touta Konoe (UQ Holder) vs Yerin
Esdeath (Akame ga kill) vs Li Markuth
More to come later =(^-^)=
This thread has gotten so long! It's been awesome, but now I'm having trouble keeping track of it all!
1.) Grom vs. Elder Whisper
I'd like to give it to Whisper because of the flexibility of madra vs. Vancian magic, which relies on prepared and memorized spells and material components. That said, I'd think it would depend on where they fought. Elder Whisper relies on light aura, and Menzoberranzan is in the Underdark. There is some bioluminescence for decoration, but the dark elves primarily rely on infravision to see. No light aura, and Elder Whisper's powers are more limited. Plus, Grom can attack directly, which Elder Whisper essentially can't. Grom gets it.
2.) Ninja Gaiden 2 Ryu Hayabusa vs. Yerin
I have to say I didn't play 2; I played 1, and I played Dead or Alive, but not 2. So if the specifics of what I say are wrong, forgive me.
I'd think Yerin would get it because she's from a magic system with more magic. Everything she does is infused with madra--she's strengthened by madra, throwing blades of madra, using the power of an opponent's blades against them.
Ryu has powers of his own, as well as a great deal of training, but for the most part he's swinging regular steel weapons. Yerin beats him.
3.) SS3 Goku vs. Northstrider
This is roughly the level of power I'm looking at for Northstrider. When he powers up, the world shakes for miles around. That sort of thing.
(Not blowing up planets, but they could do that in the Saiyan Saga, so I'm just kind of pretending DBZ characters can't do that.)
I'd think Goku would win, because Northstrider can't teleport or use ki blasts (unless between now and my introduction of the character I decide to give him that ability). In a straight punch-out, they'd be comparable.
4.) Majin Buu or Majin Vegeta
Yes.
5.) Evangeline vs. Sha Miara
UQ Holder Evangeline rather than Negima Evangeline, huh? Not that in her particular case it matters much, that's just interesting.
Evangeline has to win because she's immortal and Sha Miara isn't. In terms of magical firepower, I'd give it to Sha Miara, but I don't know that Evangeline has ever gone 100% all-out. Still a similar level.
6.) Touta Konoe vs. Yerin
Same thing: Touta wins because he can't be killed. So he basically can't lose a death match.
I'm also not fully clear on what his powers are, but the White Light of Mars can presumably disperse Yerin's Striker and Ruler techniques (though not her Enforcer techniques, which I'd guess would work more similar to chi in the Negima universe). Even if you say that dying once disqualifies him, Touta probably wins.
7.) Esdeath vs. Li Markuth
Esdeath can freeze *time itself,* which is pretty OP, but I think Li Markuth still wins. He's superhuman and has access to a broader variety of techniques.
Where in the Willverse would you want to go if you could visit one of your iterations?
Most of the settings I write about aren't places you'd really want to visit. I'm basically inventing the least comfortable places I can imagine. However, there's an ancient library in Cradle called the Dreamway. It's filled with thousands of dream tablets that each contain endlessly changing fictional worlds. Each tablet is essentially a virtual reality experience that crafts a new story on command. I'd want to go there. I'd probably, you know, die from neglecting my basic physical needs, but that's a nicer way to go than by visiting Valinhall.
